SPECIFIC IMPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR:

 

Nursery stock – orchids as tissue cultures

from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore or Thailand

 

 

1         Each plant in the consignment must be clearly labelled with its scientific name.

2         The containers must be sealed, sterile and of a clear (not opaque) construction so as to allow the inspection of the culture and media. The closure stoppers/lids must prevent the passage of contaminating organisms into and out of the containers.

3         The consignment must be accompanied by a Phytosanitary Certificate which must have the following Additional Declarations:

(i)      “The tissue cultures and media have been inspected in …… (insert name of the exporting country) ………… according to appropriate procedures and found free of disease symptoms, bacterial or fungal contamination, or other extraneous contamination of quarantine concern.”

 

(ii)    “The tissue cultures were established and grown in the container/culture bag in which they are being shipped. Evidence of establishment, i.e. root or callus development, has been observed.”

 

4         Subject to Quarantine inspection on arrival.

5         Consignments that fail to meet these requirements must undergo a minimum period of 3 months Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ).

6         Plants will only be released from PEQ if the Director of Biosecurity is satisfied the plants are free of viruses or other quarantine pests and diseases that may endanger plant health.
